Description

Discover centuries-old mountain villages along the hillside road overlooking Lake Como

The steep banks of Lake Como are criss-crossed with a labyrinthian network of mule tracks and trails that link the lakeside towns with places dubbed “Monti” – the centuries-old hillside villages where people eked out a meagre living off the mountain – before continuing up to the alpine pastures along the ridge.

This little-known yet incredibly picturesque itinerary takes you through some of the most beautiful, and in parts rugged, countryside to visit some of the best preserved mountain villages above the towns of Moltrasio and Urio.

Setting off from Monte di Lenno, we will be walking between 600 and 700 metres above sea level along the trail to Monte di Liscione. From there, we follow the mule track to Monte di Urio against the fantastic backdrop of Lake Como.

A hike through the peace and quiet of the woods and into memories of the hard life led by people trying to survive with what they could farm on the mountain.
